Cold – 54

February 3, 2011

Yesterday we had an ice storm. Fortunately it wasn’t nearly as bad as they were initially forecasting. The biggest problem is the weight it has added to the snow on the roofs. Within a mile of where I am, the roof on the Tennis Club collapsed. Fortunately no one was hurt. All over the state are reports of roofs collapsing. Our town canceled school today as they checked the buildings to try and make sure there is no structural damage.

On the plus side, the ice on the trees was beautiful. So here our some photos I took today. The cold kept the ice on the trees until late this afternoon. The first two photos were taken about 10:30am. The third one was taken around 3:30pm. I used a polarizer for these photos. Also I used Topaz Adjust on the third photo – just because.

Three great shots showing how cold it is – my favourite is the middle one because I like the way you have composed it.

I’m so glad we didn’t get it as bad as we were supposed to either. I like the last shot a lot, because of the contrast with the sky

At least in the third shot you can tell yourself it was a warm day, but the first two Brrrrrrrr.

Yikes, hope none fell on your place.

The snow and ice can look beautiful…as long as you don’t have to be out in it.

Beautiful icy tree branches against the blue skies. So lacey looking!

We did seem to dodge the bullet in terms of the amount of ice they predicted and the amount we got (I’m in CT, too.) I was pretty worried at 9AM when it started to rain heard and it was all freezing, but fortunatey, it didn’t last long. The one good thing about an ice storm is that it is beautiful–looks like fairy land, especially if the sun comes out before thit’s melted or broken off the branches.

Ice is so pretty and so dangerous! Love the deep blue sky in that 3rd shot.

We dodged ice, too. The 2-3 feet of snow drifted over our driveway was light and fluffy. Yippee….. 😛

Beautiful images. Let’s just hope you won’t get too much more of the ice. We want spring now!

Beautiful images of the icy remnants of your storm. These storms can be devastating, so you are so lucky it was not as severe as they expected. I have to say, the experience of being surrounded by ice-covered EVERYTHING is pretty surreal.
